How to Volunteer

Make a Difference in a Child’s Life, Be a Big!!

Volunteering is fun!  Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things you will ever do.

It's easy, too. Your Little can join you for the kinds of activities you already like to do, such as:

· Shooting hoops

· Playing a board game

· Sharing a pizza

· Taking a walk in the park

· Or just hanging out and talking.

Just 4 hours a month can change a young person's life.

Depending on the Big Brothers Big Sisters program you're in, you will meet your Little at his or her school or in the community.

Little Brothers and Little Sisters come from all kinds of backgrounds. Some are really little

(as young as six) and some are teenagers. Some may live on your block and some a few miles away.

What do they all have in common?

They need the friendship and guidance of someone like YOU.

Spending Time with Your Little
Once matched, Big Brothers and Big Sisters develop friendships with their Little Brothers and Little Sisters.  Whether playing a computer game or simply hanging out - you bring magic into the life of a child.  It's that simple.

School-based matches meet in schools for just one hour each week during the day.  They do projects together, read in the library, eat lunch, shoot hoops and more.

Community-based matches are flexible and will fit your busy schedule.  Bigs and Littles hang out in the community and go to museums, sports events, movies, and more.  It's up to you and your Little!

We'll Support Your Friendship
When you're part of something Big, you're not alone. Each match is supported by professional staff at your local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency.  Match support specialists regularly check in with volunteers, children, and parents, and are always available to answer questions.

Regular events are held in your community, giving you an opportunity to meet other Bigs and Littles in your area.  Plus, through the generosity of our partners and individuals in your community, there are often free tickets to ball games, the theater, and more!
